1. What are the purposes of the TPO Network Awards?

The awards aim to identify and recognize successful TPO management and business processes, to stimulate active networking, share “good practice” among TPOs, and encourage TPO innovative approaches and initiatives to promote their country export potential. The 2010 TPO Network Awards recognized Excellence in Export Development Initiatives.

 

2. Which institutions are eligible for apply to the Awards?

The TPO Network Awards are open to all national trade support institutions that have an official governmental delegation of authority and clear mandate for developing and promoting national exports.

 

3. What are the benefits of participating?

The benefits of successfully participating in the TPO Network Awards include:

  • News of your participation can be used for national public relations purposes, to demonstrate your effectiveness to policy-makers and increase your influence with stakeholders;
  • Recognition by your peers and improved positioning within the TPO community;
  • As a winner, you will be entitled to use the TPO Network Awards logo on your corporate communications;
  • As a winner, your TPO Network Award success will feature prominently on the TPO Network website (www.tponetwork.net) and in ITC’s promotional activities;
  • As a winner, your experience may be used in the development of capacity building materials to be used in ITC’s activities, and eventually shared on the TPO Network website.

 

4. What are the 2010 TPO Network Awards' categories? 

The 2010 TPO Network Awards were granted to TPOs from four different country groupings. The countries, according to the United Nations classification system, are grouped into:

  • Least Developed Countries (LDCs)
  • Developing Countries
  • Developed Countries
  • Small Island Developing States (SIDS)

 

5. What did the 2010 Awards focus on?

The 2010 TPO Network Awards - Excellence in Export Development Initiatives - focused on key processes required to offer an effective export development initiative and on the overall impact of the initiative. The key areas assessed are:

  • Determining the needs for the export development initiative
  • Performance monitoring of the initiative
  • The assessed effectiveness of the initiative

The awards were granted to the TPO that demonstratee outstanding performance in the use of innovative and efficient systems and procedures for an export development initiative that has produced a demonstrable impact on the competitiveness of enterprises and/or sustainable exports.

 

6. How many Awards can an institution apply for?

TPOs may only submit one application in the category in which they belong: Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Developing Countries, Developed Countries, Small Island Developing States.

 

7. How does the application process work?

Prospective applicants will find detailed guidelines and instructions published in the TPO Network website prior to the closing date for submission of applications. ITC is committed to providing sufficient advance notice to all interested parties in order to facilitate participation by all TPOs.

In general terms, applications will be presented in three parts: a first part containing the TPO identification, contact information and corresponding disclaimers; a second part containing an executive summary of the business case being submitted, and a third part containing the business case itself. All three parts of the submission need to be sent to ITC via physical and electronic mail before the deadline.

 

8. When are the results announced?

The TPO Network Award takes place concurrently with the TPO Network World Conference every two years. The last version of the TPO Network Awards took place in October 2010 in Mexico City, and the next version is expected to take place in 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The results of the TPO Network Awards are announced during a gala dinner on the first night of the Conference.

 

9. Who evaluates the Award applications and selects the winners?

The analysis of the applications and selection of the organizations to be awarded are done with by an Adjudicating Panel which includes a senior representative from each TPO award winner of the previous round, as well as the Director of Business and Institutional Support at ITC. The Adjudicating Panel is chaired by the Executive Director of ITC, who can only cast the decisive vote in case of need.
